RestoraCrete Concrete Paver Restoration in San Clemente

For homeowners looking for something different in the design of a patio, garden path, sidewalk, or driveway, brick pavers have been a logical choice.  Interlocking Concrete Pavers have long been an excellent choice for the curb appeal of new, elegant outdoor spaces and a very stable and sturdy surface that can provide years of enjoyment.  With more choices than ever for colors, designs, styles and textures, the is no doubt that the main reason for the choice of concrete pavers are its aesthetic appeal. Concrete brick pavers in Southern California are very popular due to the fact that they handle earth movement very well and can easily be repaired.

Like many different outdoor decorative concrete choices, concrete pavers or brick pavers are also subjected to weather and staining which, over time, can lead to fading, discolorization and deterioration.  The once coveted exterior aesthetic appeal of pavers becomes fades and tarnished by a bombardment of different conditions such as rain, sun, sprinklers, cars, foot traffic, oil, barbeque grease, fertilizer, and paint droppings.  This is why RestoraCrete recommends the multi-step application of a quality restoration to protect and enhance the aesthetic values and integrity of you concrete paver or brick paver system.

Concrete Paver Restoration Process:

Surface Preperation for Concrete Paver Clean and Seal Process

Stripping or Surface Prep : The most critical Step

Occasionally we have to strip pavers prior to applying any sealer.  Cutting this corner fosters a poor job and promotes future pealing and immediate failure.  Stripping coating off your paver is sometimes necessary if there is a build-up problemfrom previsous sealing jobs. Over application of sealer, or moisture from below the surface, often causes a white haze to appear over the entire surface. This haze makes it difficult to see the color of the pavers, detracting from the overall look. Some acrylic sealers contain low quality acrylic resins which can turn yellow when exposed to the sun’s UV rays. When a clear sealer turns yellow, ugly or begins to peel or flake it most likely needs stripping. Stripping is also a way to remove sand which was sealed to the surface of the pavers. We apply a powerful stripping agent that allows removal of multiple layers of acrylic sealer or any other possible coating or contaminant. Then we rinse the stripper & previous sealer away using water pressure. The result is a concrete paver surface that looks like it has never been sealed before, totally bare and ready to be correctly restored with our custome paver clean and seal process.

Application of new Joint Sand in our Concrete Paver Clean and Seal Process

Polymeric Sand vs Joint Stabilizers

Our second step in our concrete paver clean and seal process is to replace the joint sand between each paver.  This is another critical step that many of our competitors take for granted that the customer will not know and just skip.  RestoraCrete uses the highest quality paver joint sand specifically manufactured for this application.  It provides our customers with the best finish look and its the correct way to provide a complete restoration done the right way and professionally.

There is another way to get good joint sand restoration and that is using a polymeric sand product.  Polymeric sand is a unique mixture of polymer binders and calibrated sand, available in tan and grey but primarly used in new construction.  Once the polymeric sand sets, it becomes very frim and locks between the paver joints.  RestoraCrete never uses polymeric sand in our paving clean and seal process becauase it tends to leave a haze on the pavers that is extremely difficult to remove.   Instead RestoraCrete paver clean and seal system uses a restoration treatment that is much more economical and ideal to achieve the final result our customers love.  Our sealers have similar polymer binders in its formulation that bind with the new joint sand and fosters a level of firmness to mitiage errosing and lock in your brick paver system.

Concrete pavers will not stay perfect forever, especially if it is subjected to the outdoor weather and variety of other elements. Outdoor surfaces such as decorative concrete pavers take special requirements for care. Over time, landscape pavers will shift and settle causing the surface to become unstable and loose. A non level surface can hold water speeding up the deterioration process.
